Winner on the day
Acrylic and mixed media painting on poplar floating panel, 500mm H x 1200mm W, 2015.
Agriculture day has long been a special day in the Clevedon School year. Students learn about looking after others by raising and then showing their animals. It is a fun competition and you can never tell how each animal will perform on the day. As Clevedon continues to evolve I hope we remember to cherish our points of difference.

Get me some eggs
Acrylic and mix media painting on poplar floating panel, 500mm H x 1200mm W, 2015.
This painting is influenced by many years in hospitality. It contains an urgent moment in a narrative. The rooster screams for more eggs and the chicken is deciding how to react. The chickens are the actors on stage, yet we are left to wonder what happens next.

Belted Galloway
Acrylic and mixed media painting on poplar floating panel, 1200mm H x 1200mm W, 2015.
Growing up I always enjoyed passing the local Umupuia Marae and looking up on the hills to spot the Belted Galloway. Recently moving back to Clevedon and thinking about its ever changing future I was struck by the symbolism of the black and white strips on each animal. Recently when I visited the marae to ask permission to draw these beautiful animals, it was confirmed that they were always intended to stand proudly on the hill as a symbol of biculturalism.

Tallulah
Acrylic and mixed media painting on poplar floating panel, 1200mm H x 1200mm W, 2015.
Many children wish for a pony. Often you start off with an obsession for riding toy ones first. You may then start running round the yard with a skipping rope wrapped around your sisters waist to practice trotting. Sometimes you are lucky enough to get your first pony and the love for these beautiful animals takes over.

What an Arse
Acrylic and mix media painting on poplar floating panel, 1200mm H x 1200mm W, 2015.
People have long documented their experience and appreciation of animals. This work was inspired by being amongst these two donkeys and their constant movement. By montaging animals and surrounding steep hill landscape I hoped to trace existence much like the early cave painters.

Cool Pop No 2 Mobile
Title: Cool Pop No 2 Mobile Description: “Inspired by being pregnant, Alexander Calder’s mobiles, the organic forms of Dinosaur Designs and the Abstract expressionist painter Max Gimblett I started to create mobiles. As I started I was reminded of an educational legend “I believe this passionately: that we don’t grow into creativity, we grow out of it. Or rather we are educated out of it” Ken Robinson. I decided my mobiles would be Kinetic Fine Art, open ended and for all ages. Cool Pop No 2 Mobile uses bright colour and simple geometric form, the process of making is organic with the sculpture growing like it has a mind of its own.” Katie Blundell 2014 |
